MESOTHERAPY

‘Renew. Enrich. Protect’

FAQ

Mesotherapy is the technique of injecting highly diluted drug mixtures, vitamins, amino acids and/or minerals superficially in the skin. The technique was initially developed as a treatment for sports injuries and chronic pain in France and has been in use there since the 1970’s. Over the years the technique has been adapted for use for cosmetic indications and it is this use which has gained widespread acceptance over other parts of Europe and Asia.

The concept behind mesotherapy is to deliver the required drug/ingredient directly where it is required thus avoiding systemic side effects and use of much lower concentrations than would be needed via the intravenous or oral route. All compounds approved for intravenous use can be used for mesotherapy with the exception for those requiring alcoholic or oily solvents.

Very fine needles are used to place the active ingredient superficially in the skin (3 mm depth typically) and the process can involve the use of a mechanical or electrical syringe gun or it can be completely manual. Even though a needle is involved there is very little pain or bleeding during the procedure and the use of cream based anaesthesia can make the procedure painless. Micro needling is a variation of Mesotherapy in which the same active ingredient is used to coat the skin and then a small drum with tiny needles is used to make very small holes in the skin driving the product into the skin in the process. For those patients who do not want needle puncture in the skin there is the option of Mesoporation which involves using weak electrical currents to temporarily make the skin more porous thereby allowing the active ingredient to penetrate without the use of needles. This procedure does not require any kind of anaesthesia or numbing.

Biotin, Zinc, Pyridoxine, Gingko Biloba, and D-Panthenol are commonly found in hair revitalising mesotherapy products while anti-DHT ingredients like Azelaic Acid, Finasteride and blood flow stimulants like Minoxidil find use in Mesotherapy for Male Pattern Baldness. In Traditional Mesotherapy single ingredients are used in different syringes and mixing of medicines is not done; however single ingredients can be hard to find in India and South-East Asia and so instead a variety of cocktails of the active ingredients are used from pre-made vials to treat various indications.

Sessions are typically done weekly for the first six weeks and then twice a month for three months.

Does Mesotherapy have any side effects? On the whole the procedure is very safe with an excellent safety profile but infection is always a possibility with any needle based procedure, so make sure you have your sessions done by a trained doctor in a reputable establishment. Pin point bruising is the only common problem that may occur and avoiding blood thinners like Vit E, Green Tea, Aspirin, Omega-3 Fatty Acid capsules and garlic in the week before your procedure will help minimise chances of this occurring.

As with all needle-based cosmetic procedures, people with high BP, clotting problems, infections, and severe debilitating chronic disease are not ideal candidates for the procedure, but there are no specific contraindications that apply only to Mesotherapy.

HAIR TRANSPLANT • PRP • SMP • MESOTHERAPY
